The official portrait of Barack Obama is designed to cast the president of the United States in a certain light. It is crisp and detailed, well executed, and has the slightest shadow on the right side. Obama offers a slight smile, the very image of what the president is supposed to be. It all seems very designed. One can imagine a team of experts working behind the scenes. The presidential stylists have picked out a suit, well fit and blue, along with a tie that screams professional and educated. The pose had to be set, with his back straight to indicate strength. And then there is the overwhelming patriotism. In the background is the American flag, but it is not the only representation. One notes Obama’s tie is red, white, and blue. His suit matches. But, most noticeably, is the previously-controversial flag pin attached to his pressed lapel; it is obvious and almost redundant with the flag and tie. In all, the portrait feels stiff and posed, but it is also the expected image of an American president, a representation of the office and the country if not the actual person who happens to fill the position and sit for the picture.

He is a man of strength and ability to handle a nation on his own. “In this picture, he is looking like a MBA student”.
