A classic public domain stock image of homesteaders, Jack Whinery and family.

This is a public domain photograph from the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information Color Photographs Collection in the Library of Congress.

This is a classic public domain stock image from FSA color collection. In it, Russell Lee captured the Whinery family sitting for a group portrait. There is something almost eerie in the stillness of this image.

Jack Whinery and his family were homesteading in Pie Town, New Mexico in 1940 when this photograph was taken. Included in the portrait are Jack Whinery, his wife, three daughters and two sons.

This photo was taken by Russell Lee, who was working as an agent of the United States government. Because this image was taken by an employee of the federal government, it is in the public domain.

This is a photograph from the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information Color Photographs Collection in the Library of Congress.

This photograph by John Vachon captures a young boy standing on a roadside near Cincinnati, Ohio. This is one image from a small collection of color photographs from the Farm Security Administration collection.

This photo was taken by John Vachon, who was working as an agent of the United States government. Because this image was taken by an employee of the federal government, it is in the public domain. While this image is in the public domain, privacy or publicity rights may apply.

This public domain image comes from a 17th century medical textbook, published by anatomist Govard Bidloo, who is the subject of the portrait in the above image. The hand-sketched visage is one of the many drawings found in this 300-year-old volume.

Bidloo’s text, Ontleding des menschelyken lichaams, was published in 1690 and contained this image. Because of this pre-1923 publication date, this image is in the public domain.
