Shot Put Photograph Nimbus WordPress Themes

Cool vintage sports image of University of Kansas shot putter.

This great public domain photograph is from the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information Color Photographs Collection in the Library of Congress.

Another fabulous photo from the FSA color collection, this time capturing a University of Kansas student in the track and field program. The student is participating in the shot put. Overall the image is in focus, but there is some motion blur around his arms and head.

This public domain image has a cool vintage feel that would work well into many forms of media. Check out our sports category for a mix of vintage sports images.

This photo was taken by John Vachon, who was working as an agent of the United States government. Because this image was taken by an employee of the federal government, it is in the public domain.

The picture depicts a man in position for shot put throw. He has to be within the circular ring while throwing the shot put. Normally shot puts are athletic events, which come under the throwing category. The weight of the shot put ball is very heavy. In this picture as the person is in motion while the picture is shot there is little haziness. The athletes are required to throw an extremely heavy ball across a specified distance by transferring the leg strength up through the arms. The more the leg strength the more distance it will travel. The person is given three attempts. To succeed and throw to a greater distance the person should be strong, tall and fast. The background shown in the picture is a stadium, which is completely empty. This indicates that the person is undergoing practice to participate in an event in future. If the line crosses the white wooden strip then the person is considered disqualified. So while throwing the person has to gather sufficient strength to throw as well as remain inside the designated area. So he has to have a good balance. This is an ideal photograph taken when the athlete is toiling hard just before he has thrown the shot put ball.
